Happy March everybody! The first spring month is officially here and we are one step closer to SUMMER! It’s time to say goodbye to snow and welcome the sun and warmer weather ( let’s hope we don’t get any wintry weather in spring though). Spring and increasing sunlight generally bring nothing but good. The sun affects your mood, sleep, weight and you could even be falling in love more easily 😉
Light improves the mood and it might even cause the appetite to decrease and lose weight that way. There are more fun fitness activities available during spring, the need for sleep will decrease and our activity will generally improve! Light has an immediate refreshing effect and it also improves our mood! Staying in a brighter environment will refresh us immediately. Increased light has many other positive effects as well.
On the other hand, if you are already depressed at the dawn of spring, your symptoms may get worse. Spring is known to be one of the darkest times in suicide statistics in Finland. Increasing light increases energy levels, but it is not enough to correct a depressed mood, and as a result, a person can get even more restless and anxious than it was before the brighter period. While spring depression is a real problem for many, luckily it is not that common.
